Godzilla vs Kong: Player 3 has entered the game!

By now we’ve all seen the magnificent trailer for Godzilla vs Kong (and if you haven’t …… why?).

The G-man looks to be on a rampage across the globe with humanity drafting in the King of Skull Island as their last hope. With Director Adam Wingard promising that their will be a definitive winner, the trailers promise that “ONE WILL FALL” certainly seems to be true. I guess that means we wont get a repeat of the 1964 ending as Kong takes a swim back to Skull island.

But is the reigning, defending, undisputed King of the Monsters really going to be the movies big bad? Let’s not forgot that Godzilla wasn’t always a defender of earth. Originally conceived as a metaphor for the Nuclear bomb, 1954’s Gojira was very much an enemy of humanity. Eventually being bested by the Oxygen Destroyer.

Buuuuuut i don’t think that’s going to be the story of this film. So scroll no further if you don’t want to see any potential (if unconfirmed rumours).

As the trailer unfolds it sure does look like Godzilla is the enemy. We start with a city being reduced to rubble, crowds running for cover as the G-man lays waste to everything before him. We hear that Kong is humanities last hope, the only one that may stand a chance against the King of the Monsters. Kong is shown doing battle with two flying creatures we know as “War Bats”. How do we know they are called “War Bat”? Thanks to a toy leak from a few months ago, that’s how.

After Kong pretty easily see’s off these two pretenders, we see him being shipped off the island and presumably on his way to do battle against Godzilla. But the G-man has other ideas and attacks Kong en route. Destroying some of the Monarch fleet as well as introducing himself to Kong in our first glimpse of the God v King battle. So that’s it, the duel is set up and we see them go at it a few times during the course of the trailer, case closed right? I think not. We hear Monarch agents mention a terrorist organisation named “APEX” has been active. Clues to their involvement can be seen on the Monarch notice board as seen below.

As you can see it apears the theory is that Godzilla and Apex are some how working together to bring about the destruction that we’ve seen. Maybe Apex is headed by Alan Jonah (played by Charles Dance). Last seen retrieving the head of King Gidorah. Has he found a way to use the head to control Godzilla, driving him into a furious rampage? It’s certainly a possibility. But as Columbo would say , “there’s just one thing”.

That doesn’t look like Godzilla’s head to me. In fact it looks more robotic. You could say almost Mech like. In fact, you could say MECHAGODZILLA LIKE OH MY GOD IT’S HIM!

Ok, let me calm down for a second. It has the familiar shape that we associate with Mechagodzilla and the robotic chrome colouring with and underlying red glow. It’s not a clear picture of course but there’s more.

This is Ren Serizawa (played by Shuri Oguri), the son of the late Dr Serizawa. Whilst we know very little about the character and his motivations, it’s what we see in the background that we need to focus on. It appears to be a live uplink to Mechagodzilla with a read out of his systems.

Still not convinced? Remember the toy line leak we discussed earlier?

So there you have it! That’s our theory, the big bad will be Mechagodzilla and Apex!
